Good news! Goal setting works!!! And it may take time!

Brief Background
I first listened to one of your conference calls on April 6, 2005--then signed up for the Protégé Program.

My husband listened to your Goal Setting process. He was impressed with the value of writing goals--specific goals and for the first time actually wrote down his income goal.

My husband is a professional pilot---never had a raise in 8 years—
Prior to listening to your goal series, my husband had done several salary surveys and concluded that he was earning in the bottom 10 % of pilots with the same skills

When he listened to your series, he wrote down his goal--to double his salary (from $45,000 per year to $90,000 per year). Once the goal was in place, he proceeded to write a proposal letter to his boss and gave that to him in the next week. When he gave him the letter, his boss agreed--yes, we need to do something about that. Then--time passed--no discussion--apparently this was forgotten. About 4 months passed. Tim is still reviewing his goals; determining when he can bring this up.

The catalyst occurred last week. On Monday (Aug 22, 2005) another pilot services company offered Tim a job--salary would be significantly more and they needed an answer in 48 hours. Tuesday Tim discussed this with the CEO of the company and gave him a copy of his proposal--was not encouraged; the CEO did not expect the owner to be favorable towards a raise. Wednesday Tim talked with the owner of the company and gave him a couple of options: $101,000 per year or $76,000 per year--with option for Tim to moonlight also. His boss agreed to the $101,000 per year.
